Patient History

The first part of a diagnostic interview for joint pain is the careful taking of the patient's history. The doctor will ask not only for a general medical history, but also about the patient's occupation, exercise habits, past injuries to the joint, and any gait-related problems. The doctor will also ask detailed questions about the patient's ability to move or flex the joint; whether specific movements or activities make the pain worse; whether the

Questions to Ask the Doctor

  • How many joint replacements have you performed?
  • Should I consider bilateral joint replacement?
  • Will I benefit from arthroscopy or should I have joint replacement surgery now?
  • What activities will I have to give up permanently if I have TKR?
  • Does the hospital or clinic have preop classes to help me prepare for the operation? If not, are there joint exercises you would recommend before the surgery?

Doctor Fox has decades of experience with knee and hip replacement surgery in San Antonio and is prepared to anwer any and all your questions of concern.

This website is dedicated to the Orthopedic Surgeon that accomplished my total hip replacement, “Doctor David Fox” of Northeast Orthopedics in San Antonio Texas. From my initial appointment to my six week post operation appointment he and his staff were personally concerned with my welfare and relief of pain. My story actually starts, for my left hip injury, back in 1981 in the US Navy and a night parachute jump accident resulting in several injuries which one was a stress fracturing my left femur. Initially I had pain in the left leg but it subsided after several months. Knee pain is usually associated with the need for surgery. Before you have pain in your knee it would be wise to pick up Health Insurance for Houston or any other city in Texas.

It was not until around 2003 when my pain in my left hip started. As usual I ignored the pain for five years until it became difficult to walk without severe pain. That is when my attending physician referred me to Doctor Fox for an evaluation. He initially took a look at the x-rays that I brought of my left hip and then wanted to get an x-ray of my right hip for comparison. I can remember his exact words, “You need a hip replacement”. Then he said, “Your right one is almost as bad too”. Unfortunately my bearing the pain for five years has resulted in both hips practically destroyed.

This website is in no way a medical reference and the information contained within is only to describe hip replacement surgery and not diagnose the actual injury. If you believe you need a hip replacement consult your attending physician for a referral to see Doctor David Fox of Northeast Orthopedic?

I am also happy to say I had my other hip replaced on December 21, 2009 and I am progressing splendidly. Again Dr Fox comes through.
